Shaving Myths

Uncomfortable with shaving an area untouched by razors? Worried about what the effects of shaving will be?

Many of our clients desire to be hair free in various areas untouched by razors. To achieve optimal treatment results, it is important to understand that shaving is an essential part of the laser hair removal process.

Shaving is crucial because the energy from the laser is best absorbed by the hair shaft which is located below the skin's surface and must be clear of any visible hair.

**Please Note: Waxing, threading, plucking and the use of chemicals to bleach or remove unwanted hair actually removes the entire hair shaft from the follicle. This ultimately effects the hair's root and causes the laser treatment to be ineffective.

The only way to successfully treat hair follicles is to do so when the hair shaft is still intact. Partaking in any of the above hair removal alternatives removes the entire hair shaft, thus removing the laser's target.

Feel free to discuss any of your concerns with our friendly team members and remember that at Smooth Solutions, client satisfaction is our top priority.

Myth 1: Shaving causes hair to grow faster.

Fact: Shaving does NOT cause hair to grow faster. Hair grows at different rates depending on the location on the body, age, gender, and even the time of the year. Did you know hair grows faster during the summer?

Myth 2: Shaving causes hair to become more coarse.

Fact: Shaving does NOT cause hair to become more coarse. The thickness of each individual hair is determined by location on the body and its response to hormones. Razors cut the hair in the middle of the shaft causing the flat, cut surface to immediately feel sharp. Once the hair has grown out it will return to normal.

Myth 3: Shaving causes hair to grow back a darker color.

Fact: Shaving does NOT cause hair to grow back a darker color. Hair color is determined by the amount of melanin pigment it has and by bleaching, which is caused by the sun.

Myth 4: Shaving a previously unshaven area will cause new hair to appear.

Fact: Shaving an area untouched by razors does NOT cause new hair to appear. Hair growth patterns are determined by factors like hormones and genetic predisposition. Hair growth patterns continue to change over the course of life.
