Why are Laser Hair Removal treatment sessions spaced so far apart?

Treatment spacing is needed to ensure that your laser hair removal treatments are as effective as possible. Only 30 percent of your hair is active at any one time, so we space your treatments out to ensure that the laser is successful at disabling hair follicles each and every treatment. Where you are at in the treatment cycle will depend on how long you will wait between treatments.

Can you treat blonde, white, gray or red hair?

Lasers are only attracted to dark colored hair pigment. Since there is no dark pigment in any of these hair colors, the lasers cannot find the hair. Until laser technology advances, there is currently no possible way to effectively treat these hair colors.

Can you laser my lip if I have a permanent cosmetics?

Permanent cosmetics are tattoos. Your upper and lower lip areas are too close in proximity to the tattoo for the laser to safely treat the area without any reaction. For your safety, we must stay 15 mm or a laser spot size away from any tattoo to avoid interaction with the pigment.

Can my eyebrows receive a laser treatment?

Client safety is our first priority. As a precaution, we choose not to laser these areas because if the laser is used improperly it can damage the eye. Because of our preventative measures, Smooth Solutions has never had an eye injury with any of our clients or team members. See our Understanding Laser Hair Removal page for more information on Laser Hair Removal treatments.

Is Laser Hair Removal safe while I am pregnant?

The laser energy used during Laser Hair Removal is not strong enough to harm you or your baby. Infact, we have several technicians who perform Laser Hair Removal treatments throughout their pregnancy without any effect to their babies.

Still, we do not recommend Laser Hair Removal for pregnant women because it is ineffective. As with any pregnancy, the hormones a woman's body releases during that time can cause hair growth cycles to accelerate. This acceleration makes treatment at this time redundant. Rest assured that treatments can resume 30 days after giving birth. For more information on Laser Hair Removal treatments, see the  Laser Hair Removal page.

Can you laser over my tattoo?

Since the lasers react with pigment, we must stay 15mm away from any tattoo border to avoid any possible reaction with the pigment in the tattoo, including possible changes to the look of the tattoo. Therefore, we can treat clients who have tattoos, but we can not treat areas on or less than 15mm away from the tattoo. For more information, visit our Laser Hair Removal page.

Why is sun exposure an issue?

Our first priority is safety. We recommend that you limit your sun exposure not only to attain favorable Laser Hair Removal results, but to maintain a healthy lifestyle since UVA and UVB rays can be very harmful to the body in general.

Clients who tan or are exposed to the sun on a regular bases must have had consistent sun exposure for at least 30 days prior to your appointment to recieve treatment. Consistent exposure means at least one exposure every 10 days and includes more than just tanning in a booth or outdoors. In our climate, 10 trips to the store is equivalent to laying out in the sun for 2 hours. This also includes any outdoor activities such as exercise, gardening, picnics and attending outdoor sporting events. If you have had any significant change in color, you must also wait 30 days from that initial exposure to help your skin stay safe.

Please note that if you are sunburned, regardless of how much previous sun exposure you have had, we cannot safely laser you until 30 days after the sunburn was received. For this reason, we encourage the use of sunscreen to all of our clients.

Will shaving cause my hair grow back faster, darker or thicker?

Shaving does not cause new hair to grow or make it grow faster, thicker or darker. Hair grows at different rates depending on location, age, gender and even time of year. Your hair color is determined by the amount of pigment in it and bleaching is caused by the sun destroying that pigment. Hair thickness is determined by location and response to hormones naturally produced in your body. When hair is cut by a razor at the surface it is in the middle of the shaft, it’s thickest point, so the cut surface feels coarse. It will feel soft again as it grows out.

If this were possible for shaving to effect hair growth rates, balding men would be shaving to try and stimulate new growth. See our Shaving Myths page for more answers to your hair removal questions.

Do your lasers cause cancer?

The wavelength on our lasers is too large to cause DNA damage. If our lasers could cause damage, our laser technicians would have to wear radiation counters.
